Johnny Mercer Celebration

Featuring Joe Gransden and jazz vocalist Carmen Bradford with the Georgia State University Jazz Band

  • Friday, February 28, 2014 @ 8:00 PM

Georgia’s own Johnny Mercer was one of twentieth century America’s most prolific and beloved songwriters, composing more than 1,400 songs, receiving nineteen Academy Award nominations and cofounding Capitol Records, all between 1929 and 1976. When a pair of modern jazz icons—longtime Count Basie Orchestra vocalist Carmen Bradford and hard bop trumpeter/vocalist Joe Gransden—perform a rousing selection of some of his innumerable hits alongside the Georgia State University Jazz Band, his legacy will come alive all over again.

“Bradford’s voice reaches from broad, belting climaxes to softly purring, intimate sounds, and she employ[s] it to full benefit.”Los Angeles Times
