Béla Fleck is widely renowned as the world’s greatest banjo player, having achieved that distinction by stretching the instrument’s possibilities through collaborations across the boundaries of jazz, blues, and world music. His insatiable creative spark has yielded him GRAMMY nominations in more categories than anyone in the award’s history. Now gracing the Rialto stage in a fourth iteration, Fleck this time calls on his chemistry with his wife, fellow banjo virtuoso Abigail Washburn, for a rare performance blending original compositions and traditional folk favorites. The two aren’t your average husband-and-wife duo, and their performance also promises anything but the ordinary.
“[Fleck’s] technique, vocabulary, and flair for meaningful and dramatic soloing is immense. No other banjo player has approached Fleck in these areas.”Chicago Tribune
“[Washburn is] a daring, definite talent, whose feel for the folk idiom results in moving material. Soulful is the word.”
