“Don Giovanni” by W.A. Mozart
80 Forsyth St NW
Atlanta, GA 30303
Presented by the Georgia State University Opera Theatre and Symphony Orchestra
If you like Film noir, you’ll love the GSU Opera Theater’s production of Mozart’s classic opera Don Giovanni. Film noir features locations that reek of the night, of shadows, of alleys, of the back doors of fancy places and of apartment buildings with a high turnover rate; women who just as soon kill you as love you; a world filled with doom, fear and betrayal. Don Giovanni takes place in the course of one disastrous, shadowy evening and ends with an unrepentant sinner plummeting to Hell. Come see this exciting production of Don Giovanni inspired by Film noir. Enjoy…but don’t expect a happy ending!
Come early for the free Pre-Show Talk with Dr. Marie Sumner-Lott in the Lobby at 7 p.m. Attendees are invited to pre-show lecture about the characters in Don Giovanni and how Mozart’s music brings them to life. Dr. Sumner-Lott will answer questions about Mozart’s life and career in the 1780s and the music that changed how we view heroes and villains on the operatic stage.
