The In Crowd & Hang On Ramsey – 50th Anniversary
- Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 8 p.m.
Critics and fans often refer to Ramsey Lewis as “the great performer,” a moniker he collected between any number of the three GRAMMY Awards, seven gold records or 80-plus albums to his credit. Ramsey is one of the foremost names in jazz piano, whose style and selections marry his early gospel playing and classical training with a love for jazz and other musical forms. And this visit is a special one: the proud Chicago native will play selections from his famed breakout The In Crowd – which was recorded in May of 1965 at Bohemian Caverns in Washington D.C. and whose title track was inducted into the GRAMMY Hall of Fame in 2009 – and its spectacular follow-up Hang On Ramsey! in celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of its release!
Come early and enjoy a pre-show talk with pianist, composer, arranger and educator, Gary Motley at 7:oo p.m. in the Lobby!
“Lewis’ music is a destination in itself. His music offers the opportunity to connect with something universal, joyful and profoundly human.”
